A man who posed as a real estate agent on WhatsApp to trick a woman into handing over thousands of dirhams has been ordered by the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court to pay a total of AED 84,900 in restitution and damages.
According to a Gulf Today report, the court found that the man lured the victim by sending fake property listings, complete with photos and details, under the guise of helping her secure a rental property. Trusting his claims, the woman transferred AED 80,900 to his bank account.
Realizing she had been duped, the woman filed a lawsuit demanding the return of her money along with compensation for the distress caused. The court noted that the defendant had already been criminally convicted for the same fraudulent act.
In its ruling, the court emphasized that the defendant’s deception was proven and that his actions caused both financial loss and emotional harm. As a result, he was ordered to return the AED 80,900 and pay an additional AED 4,000 in compensation for material and moral damages.
