Filipino short film Segunda Pulo makes it to Cannes Lions 2025 global archive

The Filipino short documentary Segunda Pulo: Filipino Heritage through the Artisans’ Hands has officially been included in The Work by Cannes Lions 2025, a global archive that showcases the most celebrated and culturally impactful creative campaigns in the world.

Directed by Seth and Mary Gagahina of The Carrot Brand in collaboration with Terno by TCG, the 25-minute film beautifully captures the quiet strength of traditional Filipino craftsmanship. Through the lens of piña weaving and intricate calado embroidery, Segunda Pulo weaves a powerful narrative of heritage, resilience, and identity—told not through dialogue, but through the skilled hands of artisans who carry centuries of tradition.

Shot in just one day around the Caliraya Lake region of Laguna, the documentary pays homage to its namesake barangay, Segunda Pulo in Lumban, a place steeped in history and textile artistry. The film has resonated deeply with multicultural audiences since its international premiere in Dubai, where it was proudly supported by the Philippine Consulate General.

“We proudly celebrate Segunda Pulo and the remarkable team behind it,” said Consul General Marford M. Angeles. “This film embodies the dignity of our cultural heritage and the grace of Filipino craftsmanship. Its recognition on the global stage affirms the importance of storytelling rooted in identity and elevated through artistry.”

Following its Dubai debut, Segunda Pulo went on to screen at the Al Marmoom Film Festival and the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, further cementing its status as a work of global and cultural significance.
