Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has firmly declared he will not seek any elective post in 2028, as he steps into his third and final term as mayor.
Speaking during Monday’s turnover ceremony for newly elected Pasig officials, Sotto made his decision public in a straightforward statement: “In 2028, I will not run. I am already telling you this now. That’s why I am free to do what I think is right.”
He did not provide further details about his post-mayoral plans but emphasized that his final three years in office will be spent making independent decisions without political pressure.
Sotto’s party, Giting ng Pasig, swept the midterm elections, clinching the posts of vice mayor, congressional representative, and all 12 city council seats—six from each district. He himself earned a landslide victory over challenger Sara Discaya, securing 351,392 votes compared to Discaya’s 29,591, based on the Commission on Elections’ official count.
Now entering the last stretch of his leadership, Sotto is expected to push forward with reforms and projects unencumbered by re-election concerns.
