Justice Secretary Remulla to apply for Ombudsman post as Martires retires

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has confirmed his intention to apply for the position of Ombudsman, with current Ombudsman Samuel Martires set to retire on July 27.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Remulla said he plans to formally submit his application to the Judicial and Bar Council by Friday. “I think I have a lot to offer there,” he said, signaling his readiness to take on the role that oversees government accountability.

Remulla also assured the public that the Department of Justice will continue to operate smoothly even if he steps down. “I think we are solidly organized here and it can stand on its own while the succession process is ongoing,” he noted.

The next Ombudsman will play a crucial role in prosecuting graft and corruption cases involving public officials.
