A Saudia flight bound for London made an emergency landing in Cairo on Thursday after a tragic incident claimed the life of a crew member mid-flight.
Flight SV119 had just departed from Jeddah when cabin manager Mohsen bin Saeed Alzahrani suffered a sudden medical emergency. Despite immediate aid from fellow crew and licensed medical passengers onboard, Alzahrani was declared dead upon the plane’s arrival at Cairo International Airport.
“This is a heartbreaking moment in which we lost one of our most dedicated team members,” Saudia said in an emotional post on X, describing Alzahrani as “a shining example of commitment and discipline, admired by his peers for his integrity, professionalism, and high moral character.”
The airline praised its crew for handling the emergency with “remarkable courage and professionalism” and expressed gratitude to passengers for their cooperation during the diversion.
Saudia also assured the public that full support is being extended to Alzahrani’s family and colleagues during this time of grief.
While rare, in-flight deaths can result in unscheduled landings, as seen in past incidents involving Turkish Airlines and flydubai flights.
