Qatar waives traffic fines after Iranian missile strike sparks chaos in Doha

Qatar has announced a rare waiver of all traffic violations issued on Monday, June 23, as the country grappled with the fallout of Iranian missiles targeting the US-operated Al Udeid Air Base.

Residents of Doha were caught in a tense and chaotic night after explosions echoed over the capital, following Iran’s response to reported US airstrikes on its nuclear facilities. The strike came amid escalating tensions, with President Donald Trump openly discussing the possibility of regime change in Tehran.

The Qatari government swiftly condemned the missile attack and summoned the Iranian ambassador. In the hours that followed, many residents rushed home to check on loved ones or hurried to workplaces to fulfill essential duties under uncertain and alarming circumstances.

Recognizing the urgency and public cooperation, the Ministry of Interior issued a statement saying, “This decision comes as a gesture of appreciation for the swift and responsible response demonstrated by citizens and residents in promptly reaching their workplaces and service centres, under pressing circumstances that required urgent movement.”

Officials emphasized that the blanket traffic fine waiver is a one-time exception and urged drivers to continue observing road regulations in the future.
