Several Singapore-Dubai flights cancelled as regional tensions escalate

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced the cancellation of several flights between Singapore and Dubai from June 22 to June 25, 2025, citing security concerns over the escalating geopolitical situation in the Middle East.

The affected flights include SQ494 and SQ495, which operate daily between the two cities. Specifically, SQ494 (Singapore to Dubai) and SQ495 (Dubai to Singapore) for June 22, 23, 24, and 25 have all been cancelled. The airline noted that the decision follows a comprehensive security assessment.

This comes as the region faces growing instability, with multiple global carriers suspending or rerouting flights due to fears of missile strikes and military escalations. Tensions spiked after recent attacks and retaliations involving Iran, Israel, and Western forces, prompting many airlines—particularly from Europe, North America, and the Gulf—to adjust operations.

Middle Eastern carriers such as Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways have also announced flight suspensions or route changes, particularly involving airspace over Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Airports like Israel’s Ben Gurion and Iran’s Tabriz have either reduced operations or shut down temporarily due to safety risks.

SIA advised passengers to monitor flight status updates through official channels and reiterated that safety remains the airline’s top priority.

“Passengers on affected flights will be re-accommodated or offered full refunds,” the airline stated.

Travelers are urged to check with their airlines before proceeding to the airport, as schedules remain fluid amid ongoing developments.
