President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivered a heartfelt message to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Osaka, Japan, over the weekend, vowing that his administration will continue to prioritize their welfare and ensure that their sacrifices are never taken for granted.
Addressing members of the Filipino community, Marcos described OFWs as the nation’s “Bagong Bayani” or modern-day heroes, praising their strength and resilience while working far from home to support their families.
“I recognize the weight of your sacrifice, and the strength it takes to provide for your families from afar,” the President said, emphasizing that OFWs are central to his administration’s programs and reforms.
He cited ongoing efforts to enhance their experience and long-term well-being, including dedicated OFW lounges in airports, stronger labor agreements with host countries, and reintegration initiatives for those planning to return for good.
“Sinisiguro po natin na ang ating gobyerno ay may sapat na pagkakataon na naghihintay para sa lahat ng OFW na nais umuwi at tuluyan nang manirahan sa Pilipinas,” Marcos added, reinforcing the vision of a future where families no longer have to live apart for economic reasons.
The President was accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos and top officials including Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, Trade Secretary Cristina Roque, and OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan. He also expressed gratitude to Philippine Ambassador Mylene Garcia-Albano and Consul General Voltaire Mauricio for their continued service.
As the Philippines and Japan gear up to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, Marcos said the contributions of Filipinos in Japan continue to be a crucial bridge in strengthening ties between the two nations.
