Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Nicolas Torre III has issued a firm reminder to all officers: stay within the standard weight or risk being removed from service.
In a radio interview on Tuesday, Torre emphasized that police personnel who fail to meet the required body weight—based on height, age, and sex—will be given up to a year to comply. Otherwise, they may be discharged from the force.
“After one year, may separation from the service,” Torre said during an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, citing Section 30 of Republic Act 6975, which outlines the physical requirements for members of the police force.
Under PNP regulations, those exceeding or falling short of the standard by more than five kilograms are considered unfit. Affected officers will be given six months to one year to reach their target weight.
Torre clarified that officers with medical conditions may be evaluated for disability discharge or transferred to non-field duties. “We’ll consult with the NAPOLCOM regarding that matter. Pwede naman actually,” he added.
The directive comes as part of Torre’s push for better discipline and fitness among officers. He stressed that physical fitness plays a role in police promotions and reflects the overall discipline expected from those in uniform.
