Sahara Centre bursts with color and Filipino pride for 127th Independence Day celebration

The Sahara Centre in Al Nahda turned into a lively celebration of Filipino heritage as it hosted the 127th Philippine Independence Day festivities, drawing a diverse crowd to its East Atrium over the weekend.

Organized by Creative Makers Events and Manny Johnson’s Production, the event showcased the richness of Filipino culture through fashion, community participation, and vibrant traditions. Hundreds gathered to witness the grand parade of nearly 100 children donning traditional and modern Filipino attire—from Barong Tagalog to intricately designed Filipiniana gowns.

Mallgoers, both Filipinos and other nationalities, paused to admire the children who proudly represented the vibrant spectrum of Kasuotang Pilipino. The parade seamlessly transitioned into a fashion show, where the young participants strutted the runway with grace and confidence, earning cheers and applause from the audience.

The highlight of the event came with the announcement of the Best in Kasuotang Pilipino winners:

1st Prize Winners: Little Ms. Niña Florence Gunot and Little Mr. Yamine Lucas Samonte

2nd Prize Winners: Little Ms. Zhainetelle Cabungcal and Little Mr. Johann Mathieu Nuyda

3rd Prize Winners: Little Ms. Giana Marie Fe Clores and Little Mr. Rayyan Jan

One attendee, Elizabeth, couldn’t hide her emotions as she soaked in the atmosphere: “Parang nasa Pilipinas lang ako dahil sa dami ng tao sa mall at sa mga naggagandahang kasuotang Pilipino!” (“It felt like I was in the Philippines because of the crowd and the beautiful Filipino attire!”)
