In a bold step toward health equity and sustainability, UAE-based startup Ourwatr is launching a nationwide initiative in June 2025 to provide free mineral water to the public—marking a regional first. The mission: make hydration a right, not a privilege.
Chilled bottles of EQM-certified mineral water, sourced from Dibba, Fujairah, will soon be available at metro stations, malls, parks, and government offices across the country. The startup, founded by three UAE-based entrepreneurs, is positioning water not just as a necessity, but a public service.
“At Ourwatr, we believe that drinking water should be accessible to all,” said co-founder Abhinav Murali. “That’s why we’re giving away premium mineral water for free, and every bottle supports communities in need. It’s hydration with heart, proudly made right here in the UAE.”
With temperatures soaring during the summer months, the project also addresses a growing public health need. “In our desert climate, hydration isn’t just healthy; it’s life-saving,” added co-founder Bharath Mohan.
Each bottle distributed doesn’t just quench thirst—it also contributes to a broader social impact. Through a unique model that replaces sales with sponsorships, partner brands cover the cost of production and distribution. In return, they co-brand the bottles with their own messages, aligning with values of kindness, sustainability, and public service.
“Sustainability isn’t just about less waste—it’s about creating lasting, meaningful change,” explained co-founder Sharat Nair. The recyclable bottles support the UAE’s zero-waste targets and Vision 2030 goals for health, well-being, and environmental stewardship.
