President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Darlene Berberabe as the new Solicitor General of the Philippines, succeeding Menardo Guevarra.
Guevarra confirmed the transition himself on Thursday and expressed confidence in Berberabe’s ability to lead the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG). “I am happy for Darlene Berberabe. As a top-caliber lawyer with an impressive management background, she will surely do well as Solicitor General,” Guevarra told reporters via Viber. He added, “As for me, maybe it’s time to go back to a quiet and peaceful private life.”
Berberabe brings with her a strong academic and professional background. She served most recently as the dean of the University of the Philippines College of Law. She graduated summa cum laude in Philosophy from UP and was salutatorian of its College of Law in 1999.
Her legal career includes a stint at Baker McKenzie specializing in labor law and serving as senior counsel for Procter & Gamble Philippines. In 2010, she was appointed CEO of the Pag-IBIG Fund, where she led major institutional reforms.
Berberabe also held teaching positions as a senior lecturer at UP Law and as a professorial lecturer at the Philippine Judicial Academy.
