After back-to-back days of extreme heat that pushed thermometers above the 50°C mark, the UAE is expected to see a slight drop in temperatures starting Monday, offering some much-needed relief for residents.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said fair conditions will prevail on Monday, though intermittent cloud cover may occur. The temperature drop will be more noticeable along coastal areas, thanks to southwesterly to northwesterly winds blowing across the country. These winds, while light to moderate, may stir up some dust during the day.
On Sunday, the hottest temperature recorded was 49.8°C in Mezaira, Al Dhafra, while the lowest was a much cooler 22.5°C in Barakah 2, also in the Al Dhafra region.
In the coming days, temperatures in mountainous areas like Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah are forecast to dip to around 25°C. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi is still expected to experience highs of up to 48°C, but overall, the country will begin easing out of the intense heatwave that gripped it over the weekend.
