VP Duterte to visit OFWs in Doha as part of official overseas mission

Vice President Sara Duterte is set to embark on official visits to Qatar and The Netherlands from May 26 to June 4, even as her impeachment proceedings move forward in the Senate.

According to a travel advisory from her office, Duterte will meet with the Filipino community in Doha on May 27 before heading to The Hague. There, she is scheduled to visit her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, on May 30, and again on June 2 and 3.

The advisory also noted that on May 31, Duterte will take part in a peaceful gathering organized by Filipino groups outside the International Criminal Court (ICC). Her father is currently in ICC custody in The Hague, facing charges related to his administration’s controversial drug war.

Duterte’s trip comes just days before her own political battle intensifies. The Senate will formally read the articles of impeachment against her on June 2, with the impeachment court expected to convene the following day, June 3.

The Vice President was impeached by the House of Representatives in February on multiple grounds, including the questionable use of ₱612.5 million in confidential funds and a claim that she had supposedly arranged for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s assassination should she be killed.

She is expected to return to the Philippines on June 4.
