Two more Filipino actors are set to make their mark in the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender as Netflix expands the cast for its upcoming second and third seasons.
Oscar-nominated actress Dolly de Leon and seasoned performer Jonjon Briones have officially joined the fantasy series, as announced by Netflix early Wednesday. De Leon will take on the dual role of Lo and Li—wise, elderly advisers who guide the fierce Fire Princess Azula in firebending. Meanwhile, Briones steps into the role of the legendary swordmaster Piandao, a respected member of the White Lotus who trains both Sokka and Prince Zuko in the art of swordsmanship.
They join fellow Filipinos in the ensemble, including Lourdes Faberes, who will appear as General Sung of the Earth Kingdom. The show’s lead star, Gordon Cormier, who plays Aang, also shares Filipino heritage.
The series, which debuted on the platform in February 2024, was renewed for back-to-back seasons in March. In a teaser for Season 2, Netflix unveiled the much-anticipated first look at fan-favorite character Toph, portrayed by Miya Cech.
Production is in full swing, with the main cast confirming that filming for Season 2 has wrapped and work on Season 3 is already underway. Other new cast additions include Madison Hu as Fei, Dichen Lachman as Avatar Yangchen, Lily Gao as Ursa, Terry Chen as Jeong Jeong, and Tantoo Cardinal as Hama.
