UAE travelers set sights on European cities and tropical islands for summer 2025

UAE residents are setting their sights on European cities and idyllic island getaways this summer, with a strong preference for Spanish hotspots like Mallorca, Barcelona, and Ibiza, according to Expedia’s Summer Travel Outlook. The surge in interest highlights a growing desire for destinations that blend culture, relaxation, and picturesque views.

“This summer, UAE travelers are setting their sights on a range of destinations that combine relaxation with exploration,” said Rehan Asad, Vice President, Global Markets at Expedia. He emphasized that the rising popularity of Spanish destinations and island escapes indicates a demand for both enriching cultural experiences and rejuvenating retreats.

Mediterranean escapes and exotic beaches in high demand

Spain is leading the pack for UAE travelers, with Mallorca experiencing a 150% year-on-year increase in interest, making it the most sought-after destination. Known for its stunning beaches and scenic villages like Valldemossa and Deia, Mallorca captures the essence of a perfect summer escape. Barcelona, famed for its iconic architecture and bustling art scene, saw a 75% increase in searches, while Ibiza, with its energetic nightlife and heritage sites, remains a favorite, rising by 25%.

Beyond Spain, travelers are also exploring beach destinations such as Antalya in Turkey, which saw a 105% rise in demand, and the Seychelles, up 90%, offering crystal-clear waters and unique wildlife experiences. Mauritius and Bali continue to be popular choices for tropical relaxation and cultural immersion.

Premium experiences and convenient travel options

For those seeking a blend of luxury and cultural depth, Milan (+85%) and Venice (+85%) offer sophisticated experiences in Italy, appealing to fashion enthusiasts and romance seekers alike. Accessibility remains a key factor, with UAE travelers favoring destinations with direct flight options or well-serviced connecting routes.

Orlando in the United States, with its world-renowned theme parks, is also drawing attention, showing a 55% increase in interest. This suggests that despite a preference for nearby destinations, travelers are willing to venture further for unique experiences.

Travel tips to maximize savings

For budget-conscious travelers, Expedia’s report suggests that early July offers the best savings, with travel prices up to 40% lower than the seasonal average. Additionally, early June (4th, 6th, and 9th) are identified as the least busy travel dates, while August 1st and 11th are expected to be the most crowded.

Expedia recommends using its Price Tracking feature to monitor flight and hotel rates, booking flights on Sundays for potential savings of up to 16%, and opting for flexible policies to maintain peace of mind.
