Marcos urges newly-elected leaders to unite for the nation’s progress

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has extended a call for unity to the country’s newly-elected leaders, urging them to set aside political affiliations and work together for the nation’s welfare.

“Governance is a shared responsibility, a mission that requires unity and burden-sharing for the common good. To the newly elected, regardless of party or coalition, I extend my hand. Let us move forward together—with open minds and a common purpose,” Marcos emphasized in his message on Tuesday, a day after the 2025 midterm elections.

Highlighting pressing national concerns like inflation, employment, corruption, and the daily struggles of Filipinos, the President underscored the need for collaboration across party lines. He even echoed his father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., saying, “If we are to prevail, we must prevail as Filipinos—for it is the only way to endure.”

Marcos also expressed gratitude to all Filipinos who participated in the elections, noting that the democratic process was carried out peacefully and with dignity. “It is both a celebration of continuity and a call to act on the real challenges our people face,” he added.

The President acknowledged the support given to Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas candidates, expressing appreciation despite not winning all available seats. “We may not have won every seat, but our work and mission continue,” he stated. He also praised those who ran but did not win, saying their willingness to serve remains commendable.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec), acting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), began counting votes on Tuesday, starting with certificates of canvass from international posts and local absentee voting. The poll body aims to proclaim the 12 winning senators by Saturday, May 17.
