Tragedy struck at the departure area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Sunday morning when an SUV slammed into a group of people, killing two and injuring four others.
The incident happened at around 8:50 a.m., according to the Pasay City Police Substation 8. The Philippine Red Cross confirmed that among the deceased were an adult man and a four-year-old girl.
Emergency response was swift, with five ambulances dispatched from various locations — including the NHQ Tower, Port Area, Pasay, and Manila — along with 18 Red Cross volunteers and a rescue unit ready for potential extrication.
Authorities have taken the SUV driver into custody. In a statement, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said the crash site has been secured and is now restricted to investigators from the PNP, MIAA Security, and New NAIA Infra Corp.
“We are closely coordinating with all concerned agencies to ensure accurate reporting and determine the cause of this unfortunate incident,” MIAA stated.
An investigation is currently underway to identify what led to the fatal crash.
