Marcos pledges stronger worker support, DOLE opens over 216K jobs on Labor Day

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. marked this year’s Labor Day by reaffirming the government’s role as an “active partner” in improving the lives of Filipino workers, promising continuous programs aimed at uplifting their welfare and recognizing their sacrifices.

In a Labor Day message, the President emphasized the need to translate appreciation into action. He noted the day as an opportunity to develop real solutions to the everyday challenges Filipino families face—especially in ensuring workplace safety, upholding rights, and driving inclusive development.

“You can be assured that the government is not a mere observer of progress, but your partner in building a just and equitable society,” Marcos said.

He also acknowledged the crucial role workers play in national progress, assuring them that the administration’s commitment goes beyond duty—it’s grounded in genuine gratitude and respect for their dedication.

To support job seekers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) rolled out over 216,000 job opportunities during nationwide job fairs.

In a symbolic gesture, free rides on MRT and LRT lines were made available from April 30 to May 3, offering some relief to daily commuters in celebration of Labor Day.

Vice President Sara Duterte also released a separate message of appreciation, praising the strength, intelligence, and perseverance of Filipino workers both at home and abroad. She honored OFWs, medical professionals, teachers, security personnel, and others in public and private sectors.

“Let us celebrate the triumphs of every worker, whether in communities or on the frontlines. May we remain resilient and united in our pursuit of meaningful change for the nation,” Duterte said.
