The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the tragic car-ramming incident that struck a Filipino community event in Vancouver, Canada, resulting in several deaths and injuries.
In a statement, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) reiterated its firm rejection of violence against innocent civilians and acts that threaten public security and stability.
The attack occurred during the Lapu-Lapu Day Block Party along Fraser Street, a celebration honoring Filipino hero Datu Lapu-Lapu and showcasing Filipino culture through performances and community activities. Authorities have charged 30-year-old Vancouver resident Kai-Ji Adam Lo with multiple counts of second-degree murder, with investigations indicating no links to terrorism but rather concerns over the suspect’s mental health history.
The Ministry extended its heartfelt solidarity to the governments and peoples of both Canada and the Philippines, wishing a swift recovery to those who were injured in the devastating incident.
Canadian leaders, including Prime Minister Mark Carney and Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim, have also expressed their condolences, as the Filipino community rallies to support the victims and their families.
