World renowned cellist honors Philippines with moving rendition of ‘Anak’

Renowned Croatian cellist Stjepan Hauser has chosen the Philippines’ iconic ballad Anak by Freddie Aguilar as the country’s representation in his ambitious mission to unite the world through music.

Hauser, known for his dramatic and emotional performances, announced that he’s taking on a one-of-a-kind project—performing a song from every country in the world as a tribute to the universal power of music.

“I want to prove, once and for all, that music connects and unites every nation, every culture, and every person on this planet,” Hauser said. “That’s why I decided to play one song from every single country. The project won’t stop until I’ve played a song from every corner of the world.”

For the Philippines, he selected Anak, a heartfelt ballad that tells the story of a child who strays from their parents’ guidance and ultimately returns home in regret. The song, which has touched millions since its release in the late 1970s, remains one of the most recognizable Filipino songs worldwide.
