Sharjah gov’t employees to enjoy four-day weekend for Prophet Mohammed’s birthday

The Human Resources Department of the Government of Sharjah has announced that the birthday of Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) will be commemorated with a holiday on Thursday, September 28, allowing government employees to enjoy a prolonged weekend.

According to Circular No. 8 of 2023, all departments, bodies, and institutions operating under the Government of Sharjah are to observe this holiday. This directive, communicated to the respective heads and directors of these entities, sets the stage for a four-day weekend, capitalizing on the regular off-days of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday already in place in the emirate.

This means the workforce of the Sharjah government will resume their official duties on Monday, October 2, following the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday, which technically falls on September 27.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) made a parallel announcement yesterday, stipulating that a paid public holiday will be observed on Friday, September 29, across other emirates for both the public and private sector employees. This decision stands in accordance with the UAE Cabinet Resolution, which demarcates the approved roster of public holidays for 2023.
