Majority of Filipinos satisfied with AFP’s performance, survey finds

Most adult Filipinos expressed approval of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to a survey conducted by OCTA Research.

The poll, carried out from November 10 to 16, showed that 76% of respondents were satisfied with the AFP’s overall performance, while only 2% said they were dissatisfied. This resulted in a net satisfaction rating of +74, which has remained steady since June 2024.

High ratings were recorded in most areas, except in Balance Luzon, which posted a lower net satisfaction score of +68.

The AFP also earned a +73 net trust rating, with 75% of Filipinos saying they trust the military and 2% expressing distrust. Trust in the AFP was highest in Visayas (+88) and lowest in Balance Luzon (+68). The strongest support came from Class E respondents with a +82 trust rating.

However, the AFP’s overall trust rating slightly declined compared to December 2023, with notable drops in Mindanao (-20 points) and Balance Luzon (-9 points), despite gains in the National Capital Region (+13 points) and Visayas (+16 points).

“These findings highlight the widespread public trust and approval of the AFP. Across various regions and demographics, Filipinos continue to recognize the AFP’s commitment to safeguarding the nation and addressing evolving security challenges,” OCTA said.

The survey involved face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults nationwide and has a ±3% margin of error. The research was part of a broader study on civil-military relations, commissioned by the AFP’s Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations.
