‘Bothersome’: Contestant’s lack of knowledge about COMELEC stirs online debate

A contestant on the noontime show It’s Showtime recently drew attention after admitting she was unfamiliar with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), prompting reactions from both the show’s hosts and social media users.

During the segment, host Vice Ganda asked the contestant if she had a message for COMELEC. She candidly responded, “Sorry po, hindi po ako masyadong knowledgeable about sa COMELEC” (I’m sorry, I’m not that knowledgeable about COMELEC).

The admission surprised the hosts, with Vice Ganda expressing concern over the lack of awareness. The show’s hosts then took the time to briefly explain the agency’s role in the electoral process.

The clip quickly circulated online, sparking discussions on social media. Many users expressed disappointment, pointing out the importance of being informed about government institutions. One netizen commented, “Ito yung pinaka-ikinanabahala natin, na yung newsfeed na lang natin yung nagdidikta ng info na makukuha natin” (This is what worries us the most, that our newsfeed is the only thing dictating the information we receive).

Others emphasized the need for young people to stay informed, especially those of voting age. A user urged, “Please, please learn about society. Do yourself a favor—learn something new every day.”

As of now, the contestant has not issued any follow-up statement regarding the viral moment.
