Camille Villar raises alarm over rise in teenage pregnancies, urges awareness and support

Camille Villar has once again raised concern about the rising cases of teenage pregnancy in the country, particularly among underprivileged youth.

Speaking at a press conference in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Villar highlighted the urgent need to boost awareness among teenagers about the long-term impacts of early pregnancies. She cited a recent 30-percent annual increase in teen pregnancy rates, particularly affecting adolescents aged between 14 and 16.

“Awareness is key,” Villar emphasized, stressing the importance of educating teenagers about the consequences early pregnancies can have on their lives.

Villar also called for improved mental health support through counseling and specialized training programs to assist young mothers in coping with the challenges of parenthood and family management.

Additionally, Villar encouraged society to view teenage pregnancy through a more compassionate lens, urging the public to remove the stigma that often surrounds the issue.

“We need an ample support system for young mothers, including financial assistance and guidance on how to handle their circumstances effectively,” Villar added.
