GCash expands remittance services for Filipinos in North America

Filipinos in the United States and Canada will soon be able to send money directly to GCash accounts in the Philippines, thanks to a new partnership between the fintech giant and US-based money transfer company Viamericas.

GCash announced on Tuesday that the collaboration will enable real-time remittances from North America, further strengthening financial support for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families.

Paul Albano, GCash International general manager, emphasized the importance of the deal, stating that it offers a fast and secure way for OFWs to send money back home. Meanwhile, Viamericas co-founder and executive chairman Joseph Argilagos highlighted that the integration aligns with their mission of providing accessible and reliable financial services to communities.

The United States remains the top source of remittances to the Philippines, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. With Viamericas operating multiple locations across North America, Filipinos will have easier access to sending money through GCash.

Currently, 81 percent of Filipinos own a GCash account. The platform, valued at $5 billion last year, continues to expand its reach globally. Its parent company, Globe, has expressed interest in an initial public offering (IPO) but is seeking regulatory adjustments to lower the required public float below 20 percent.
