Meta to delete Facebook Live videos older than 30 days starting February 19

Meta is making a significant change to how long Facebook Live videos remain accessible, with all broadcasts older than 30 days set for deletion starting February 19, 2025. The move aims to reduce storage costs as the company shifts its resources toward artificial intelligence development.

According to Meta, live stream replays, downloads, and shares will still be available for 30 days after broadcasting, after which the videos will be automatically removed. Previously, these videos were stored indefinitely.

The company explained that most live stream views occur within the first few weeks, making it inefficient to keep older broadcasts on its servers. The deletion process will happen gradually, affecting both new and existing live videos older than 30 days.

Users will receive notifications before their videos are removed and will have 90 days to download their content. Meta is also providing an option to convert live streams into Reels clips or extend the deletion timeline by six months.

The update aligns with Meta’s broader cost-cutting efforts, particularly as it plans to invest around $65 billion in AI development this year. Users who frequently rely on Facebook Live are encouraged to review their video archives and save any important content before the removal process begins.
