42 delayed balikbayan boxes released to OFWs after mishandling concerns

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) facilitated the release and distribution of 42 balikbayan boxes to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at a warehouse in Valenzuela City on February 12, 2025.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac had earlier committed to helping OFWs recover their delayed and mishandled packages during a House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs hearing on February 4. The initiative, carried out in partnership with the Bureau of Customs, aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to assist OFWs with their concerns.

The DMW, along with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), arranged for the transport of the 42 boxes to their owners in Cavite, Batangas, and Negros Occidental. In 2024, the agency successfully facilitated the delivery of nearly 10,000 balikbayan boxes.

DMW Assistant Secretaries Venecio Legaspi and Francis Ron De Guzman, along with Foreign Stakeholders Relations and Engagement Bureau Director Jun Aguilar, spearheaded efforts to ensure the timely release of the packages.

Beyond assisting with balikbayan box deliveries, the DMW also provides financial aid through the AKSYON Fund to victims of balikbayan box scams.
