Cambodia assures steady rice supply to the Philippines amid food security talks

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has expressed his country’s commitment to supporting the Philippines in ensuring food security, particularly in providing a steady rice supply and other agricultural products.

Speaking at a joint press conference with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in Malacañang on Tuesday, Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s readiness to assist in strengthening the Philippines’ food supply, especially amid concerns over El Niño’s impact on agriculture.

The two leaders had previously discussed agricultural trade and rice supply during the 50th ASEAN-Australia Special Summit last year.

Beyond agriculture, Hun Manet encouraged Philippine airlines to expand their flight routes to Cambodia, emphasizing its importance in boosting tourism and people-to-people exchanges. He highlighted Cambodia’s new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport and the soon-to-open Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh as key gateways for enhanced connectivity.

During his visit, the Cambodian leader welcomed the signing of eight agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two nations, which he said would further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Hun Manet also acknowledged the Filipino community’s contributions to Cambodia’s socio-economic development and assured President Marcos of Cambodia’s full support for the Philippines’ chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2026.

The Philippines and Cambodia established diplomatic ties in 1957, marking 68 years of relations this year.
