Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced three Chinese individuals to six months in prison for their involvement in the theft of jewellery worth Dh600,000 from a villa in Al Barari on April 19, 2024. The convicted trio, including two men and a woman, have also been ordered to pay a fine of Dh528,000.
According to a Khaleej Times report, the victim discovered the missing jewellery on the morning of April 20, 2024, and later identified the recovered items as her own. The first defendant used screwdrivers and a crowbar to break into the villa’s safe and steal several luxury items, including Bulgari, Cartier, and Tiffany jewellery. After the theft, he contacted the second defendant, who later involved his wife to help smuggle the stolen goods out of the UAE.
The couple was intercepted at Abu Dhabi International Airport while attempting to leave the country, with the jewellery found concealed in their luggage. Following an investigation, the first defendant was arrested at his residence, where tools used in the burglary were found. All three defendants confessed to their roles in the crime.
In addition to their prison sentences, the defendants face deportation after completing their time in jail. If they fail to pay the fine, they will serve additional prison time, with each day equivalent to Dh100.
