UAE’s best and worst gov’t departments revealed in bureaucracy assessment

Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has unveiled the results of the UAE’s bureaucracy reduction initiative, ranking the best and worst-performing government entities based on their efficiency and responsiveness over the past year.

The Department of Justice, the Department of State, and the Department of Energy and Infrastructure emerged as the top three entities, recognized for their efforts in cutting bureaucratic hurdles and improving services. Sheikh Mohammed praised their performance, describing them as exemplary in driving efficiency.

On the other hand, Emirates Post, the Pensions Authority, and the Ministry of Sports were ranked as the worst performers in tackling bureaucracy. The Dubai Ruler urged these entities to take swift action, emphasizing that outdated systems and inefficient procedures can be changed with decisive leadership.

Highlighting the need for innovation, Sheikh Mohammed criticized excessive red tape, stating that bureaucracy often prioritizes procedures over actual service delivery. He reiterated his commitment to assessing government performance and ensuring that services remain accessible and efficient for residents.

This is not the first time the UAE leader has publicly evaluated government agencies. Previous assessments have led to leadership changes and structural reforms, underscoring the government’s focus on continuous improvement.
