PH Consulate in Dubai launches ‘Sinehan sa Konsulado’ to highlight freedom through cinema

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai has launched Sinehan sa Konsulado, a film screening initiative under its Labindalawa campaign, aimed at celebrating storytelling as a means of exploring identity, resilience, and freedom.

The inaugural event, organized in collaboration with Viva Middle East, will take place on February 7, 2025, at the Consulate’s Rizal Hall. The first screening will feature UnTrue, a psychological thriller directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo and starring Cristine Reyes and Xian Lim, alongside Neymar Sencil’s award-winning short film Flower, which won Best Narrative Short Film at the 13th Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival.

Consul General Marford M. Angeles emphasized the significance of the event, stating that cinema serves as a powerful tool for reflection and empowerment. “Sinehan sa Konsulado is more than just a film screening; it is a platform for Filipinos to reclaim their narratives and express their truths,” he said.

By bringing thought-provoking films to overseas Filipinos, the initiative fosters discussions on personal and societal struggles, as well as the broader concept of freedom. The Consulate encourages the community to take part in future screenings, which aim to promote Philippine cinema and strengthen cultural ties through storytelling.

Further updates on upcoming screenings will be shared through the Consulate’s official channels.
