Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin defended President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s approach to the 2025 national budget, stating that the president had thoroughly removed unnecessary expenditures.
According to Bersamin, Marcos vetoed a record-breaking amount of appropriations, ensuring that funds were allocated efficiently. He emphasized in a GMA News report that the president directed billions toward projects aimed at social development, economic progress, and public welfare.
“The funds will be disbursed transparently, adhering to legal guidelines and good governance principles,” Bersamin assured, highlighting the administration’s commitment to responsible spending.
His remarks came after the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) raised concerns over alleged fund misuse in a February 2 pastoral letter titled May Pag-asa Pa Ba? CBCP President Pablo Cardinal David criticized questionable budget allocations and anti-poverty programs that he claimed promote political patronage rather than sustainable development.
As the 2025 elections approach, David also warned against the influence of political dynasties and called for leaders to prioritize public service over personal gain.
Echoing similar concerns, Fr. Tito Caluag, in an online Mass, urged a shift away from dependency-driven policies toward initiatives that empower communities and foster long-term progress.
