Russian mermaid performer attacked by giant fish in China aquarium

A shocking incident at Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park in China left visitors horrified after a giant fish attacked a young Russian mermaid performer inside an aquarium.

The performer, identified as 22-year-old Masha, was swimming gracefully in the tank, waving at families when the large fish suddenly clamped its jaws around her face. Onlookers screamed in fear as she struggled to break free.

Despite the terrifying moment, Masha managed to escape the fish’s grip within seconds and quickly surfaced. Reports indicate that the creature swallowed her goggles and nose clips, leaving her with injuries to her head, neck, and eye.

Russian media sources claim that despite her injuries, Masha was forced to continue her performance. She was later offered approximately £78 in compensation but was allegedly instructed to remain silent about the incident as the park attempted to downplay it.

The aquarium is known for housing species from the Mekong and Yangtze Rivers, though the specific type of fish involved in the attack remains unknown.
