Newborn’s body found after being taken by a dog in General Santos City

The body of a newborn baby boy was discovered on Tuesday morning, January 28, after a dog allegedly took it from a vacant lot in Purok Masagana, Barangay San Isidro.

According to a GMA News report, citing the authorities, the infant was likely abandoned in the lot after being wrapped in cloth and placed inside an eco-bag. A dog later found the body and carried it away.

Police suspect the baby was a victim of abortion, as initial findings suggest it was not full-term. Unprescribed pills, possibly linked to the procedure, were also found at the scene.

“We discovered pills that we are verifying to determine their purpose—whether they were used after an abortion or to induce it. Attending physicians will help confirm this,” said PMaj. Ivan Charles Abastillas, commander of PS1-GenSan Police Office.

The baby’s remains are now at a funeral home, while authorities continue searching for the mother.

“We are coordinating with clinics and hospitals to check if any woman has recently been admitted with signs of excessive bleeding, as post-abortion procedures require medical attention,” Abastillas added.
