Chinese firm rewards employees with massive cash giveaway worth P1.4 billion

A Chinese company that earned a profit of 260 million yuan (P2.1 billion) in 2024 marked the milestone by distributing 170 million yuan (P1.4 billion) in cash during its annual general meeting on January 25. The company is Henan Mining Group.

The event featured an unusual competition, where teams of 30 selected two representatives to count 100 yuan notes spread across a long table. The cash, if counted accurately, was divided equally among team members, with an extra 100 yuan bonus for the counters.

One lucky employee tallied 100,000 yuan (about P807,000) in just 15 minutes, while others faced penalties for errors, including a representative whose mistakes resulted in a 22,000 yuan (P178,000) pay deduction.

The company’s chief executive, Cui Peijun, has earned the nickname “China’s most generous boss” following the event, according to Chinese news site Sohu. In 2023, the company also made headlines for rewarding its 40 best-performing employees with 61 million yuan.
