Sen. Raffy Tulfo admits son’s vehicle caught using EDSA Busway

Senator Raffy Tulfo revealed on Tuesday that a vehicle carrying his son, Quezon City Second District Representative Ralph Wendel Tulfo, was caught illegally using the EDSA Busway.

Tulfo acknowledged the incident and said he reprimanded his son but emphasized that no abuse of privilege occurred. “As long as he didn’t flee, didn’t use an ‘8’ protocol plate, and apologized, I don’t see a problem,” the senator told reporters.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) allows only authorized buses, emergency vehicles, and top government officials to access the Busway. Senator Tulfo said the decision to enter the restricted lane appeared to have been made by the driver, who may have been rushing at the time.

The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) reported on Monday that the same driver was also caught using the Busway in September 2024. Senator Tulfo learned about the recent violation on Monday night and instructed his son to issue a public apology.

“Pinagalitan ko siya, pinagsabihan ko, at nag-sorry siya,” Tulfo said.
