Dubai plants 216,500 trees in a year as green spaces expand

Dubai’s green transformation continues with an impressive 216,500 trees planted across the emirate in 2024, Dubai Municipality announced on Monday, January 28. This effort equates to an average of 600 trees being planted daily, significantly enhancing the city’s green footprint.

The afforestation and landscaping initiatives resulted in 3.9 million square meters of new green spaces, enriching urban areas, roads, parks, and recreational facilities. In total, 165 beautification projects were completed last year, covering diverse locations such as main roads, bridge intersections, and family squares.

As part of its ambitious greening plans, Dubai Municipality also planted 5.3 million seedlings of flowers and ornamental plants, replacing 45 million seasonal flowers over three cycles. Indigenous trees like Ghaf, Sidr, and Samar, alongside ornamental varieties like neem, olive, and Indian jasmine, were added to the city’s landscape. Evergreen species such as Washingtonia and Poinciana also featured prominently.

Since 2011, green spaces under the Municipality’s management have doubled, now exceeding 52 million square meters by the end of 2024. Efforts remain aligned with the Green Dubai initiative, aiming to position the city as a global leader in environmental diversity.

Earlier this month, Dubai retained its title as the world’s cleanest city, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and urban beautification.
