Construction worker takes 3-year-old son hostage in Rizal

A construction worker in his mid-30s held his three-year-old son hostage along C-6 Road in Taytay, Rizal, on Saturday evening, according to Rizal Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Felipe Maraggun.

The suspect, reportedly involved in a rape case involving his stepdaughter the previous day, fled with his biological son after barangay officials arrived at his home in response to his wife’s report.

“Nung umuwi siya sa bahay nila at naalarma siguro siya dahil may pumupuntang barangay… Tinakas niya ‘yung kaniyang biological son at hinostage niya,” Maraggun explained in an ABS-CBN News report.

Armed with a sharp object, the man held the weapon close to the child’s neck, prompting concern for the boy’s safety.

Police responded to the incident around 7 p.m. after a crowd gathered, causing traffic in the area. Negotiators convinced the suspect to surrender peacefully, ending the standoff without injury.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine appropriate charges. The child was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.
