Six Philippine universities secured spots in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject, with all disciplines represented except Law.
The University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University (DLSU), University of Santo Tomas (UST), Mapua University, and Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) were recognized in various categories.
UP and DLSU led rankings in Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, and Medicine and Health. UP topped the local list for Medicine and Health, ranking 501-600 globally, and was the only Philippine school ranked in Life Sciences at 801-1000.
Mapua emerged as the top school in Computer Science and Engineering, ranking 801-1000 and 1001-1250 globally, respectively, with UP and DLSU trailing behind. DLSU also excelled in Education and Psychology, leading the local rankings in both subjects at 401-500 globally.
In Physical Sciences, UST was the only Philippine university that did not make the list. Mapua and MSU-IIT ranked highest locally at 801-1000, followed by UP, Ateneo, and DLSU in the 1001+ bracket.
UP, Ateneo, and DLSU shared the same global rankings in Social Sciences at 801-1000.
The rankings were based on key indicators, including research quality, industry partnerships, international outlook, research environment, and teaching. Data from the academic year 2022 was used.
Meanwhile, a survey by OCTA Research showed that 71% of respondents perceive UP as the best university in the Philippines. DLSU and Ateneo followed at 15% and 14%, respectively. The poll, conducted in November 2022, had 1,200 respondents with a margin of error of ±3%.
