UAE praises Oman’s mediation in freeing 25 detained crew members, 17 of them Filipinos

The UAE has lauded Oman for its successful mediation in securing the release of the crew aboard the “Galaxy Leader,” who were detained for more than a year off Yemen’s coast.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude for Oman’s efforts to resolve what it described as a humanitarian issue. The crew, which included a Bulgarian captain, 17 Filipino seafarers, and sailors from Ukraine, Romania, and Mexico, were transported from Sanaa to Muscat on an Omani air force aircraft, according to Oman’s foreign ministry.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confirmed the release of the Filipino crew members, who are now receiving support from the Philippine Embassy in Oman.

The UAE also highlighted the importance of this resolution in promoting regional stability and enhancing the security of the Red Sea, a crucial maritime corridor for global trade. It noted that such efforts contribute to ensuring smooth trade routes, stronger supply lines, and greater stability in the region and beyond.
