The crime volume in Metro Manila has decreased by 23.2 percent, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO). Data from the NCRPO show 768 crimes were recorded between November 23, 2024, and January 15, 2025, a significant drop from the 1,000 cases documented during the same period last year.
Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, NCRPO director, credited the decline to increased police presence in public areas and enhanced deployment during major events. He also acknowledged the role of community cooperation in crime prevention efforts.
“With the help of a responsive community, we will continue with our back-to-basics approach in crime prevention and solution, while implementing innovations in law enforcement,” Aberin said in a Phil Star Global report.
Among the notable decreases were rape cases, which dropped by 49.3 percent from 213 to 108, and car theft, which fell from 13 to eight cases. Physical injury incidents saw a 33.06 percent reduction, while theft and robbery cases declined by 17.42 percent and 7.84 percent, respectively. Murder cases also dropped slightly by 8.93 percent, while homicide numbers remained unchanged.
However, motorcycle thefts rose by 7.41 percent, from 54 to 58 incidents.
Aberin also highlighted the NCRPO’s aggressive campaign against illegal drugs and crime, which resulted in the confiscation of PHP 153.29 million worth of illegal substances. Operations against illegal gambling led to 3,806 arrests and the seizure of PHP 928,071.50 in bet money.
In addition, 356 firearms were confiscated, and 352 individuals were arrested for possession of loose firearms. Police apprehended 2,166 wanted persons and rounded up 349,465 individuals for ordinance violations.
“These operational milestones inspire us to remain committed to keeping Metro Manila peaceful,” Aberin added.
