Mall security guard faces possible license revocation for mistreating young vendor

A mall security guard who was caught on video mistreating a young sampaguita vendor may lose his license, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Lt. Col. Eudisan Gultiano, spokesperson for the PNP Civil Security Group, stated in a Life! report that the guard likely violated ethical standards and professional conduct. The Security and Investigation Agencies Supervisory Division (SOSIA) is assessing potential administrative complaints, which could result in penalties, suspension, or even the cancellation of the guard’s license.

“Considering the possible cases to be filed, this could lead to the revocation of his license,” Gultiano said.

The Mandaluyong City Police are also investigating the incident and working to identify the child involved.

In response, Redeye II, the security agency employing the guard, issued a public apology and assured that due process is being conducted. “We deeply regret the actions seen in the video and are reminding our team to always act with empathy, compassion, and professionalism,” the agency said in a statement.

The viral video showed the child, wearing a school uniform, sitting outside SM Megamall when the guard appeared to order her to leave. He then grabbed her sampaguita flowers and threw them to the ground. The visibly upset girl retaliated, prompting the guard to kick her and strike her several times.

SM Megamall has since terminated the guard’s employment and barred him from working in any of its establishments.
