Starting February 3, pet owners in Abu Dhabi must register their microchipped cats and dogs through a new animal ownership service, according to the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT).
According to a Khaleej Times report, individual pet owners have a one-year grace period to complete the registration process without penalties, while establishments must comply within six months. The registration will be free of charge until further notice and can be done at veterinary clinics or through the TAMM portal when the service goes live.
The initiative aims to create a centralized database for pets and their owners, helping reduce stray animal populations, track pet records, and improve animal welfare. It also underscores the importance of vaccinations, microchipping, and routine veterinary check-ups for pets.
