DSWD introduces cash grant under 4Ps to boost child health in first 1,000 days

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has rolled out its First 1,000 Days (F1KD) program, a conditional cash grant aimed at improving child health and nutrition during the critical early years of development. The initiative provides eligible households with a monthly cash aid of ₱350 to encourage them to prioritize the nutrition and health of pregnant women and children under two years old.

Part of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), the F1KD program is aligned with Republic Act 11148, also known as the Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act. The act emphasizes the importance of comprehensive healthcare services for pregnant and lactating mothers, as well as young children, to ensure proper growth and development.

DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao highlighted the program’s impact, saying the cash grant incentivizes families to access essential health services such as pre-natal and post-natal care, counseling, immunizations, and nutritional supplements.

“This program is vital in ensuring that mothers and children receive the healthcare they need during the crucial first 1,000 days,” Dumlao said in an interview.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian confirmed that the program officially began on January 1, 2025. As of the end of 2024, there were 4.2 million active 4Ps household beneficiaries who may qualify for the grant.
