Davao de Oro guard killed in P3.7M heist; police suspect organized crime group

A security guard was fatally shot in Compostela, Davao de Oro, while escorting a bank teller during a money deposit run. The robbers managed to escape with ₱3.7 million in cash.

According to a GMA News report, the incident occurred as the teller and guard were returning to their vehicle after collecting money from a commercial establishment. Video footage shows one suspect pointing a gun at the guard. The guard attempted to fight back, allowing the teller to get inside the car, but he was shot in the chest and died instantly. Another suspect grabbed the cash bag from the teller, and the assailants fled on a motorcycle after taking the guard’s shotgun.

Authorities believe the suspects had been monitoring the victims’ routine. Captain Jusibelle Abellon of the Davao de Oro Police Provincial Office confirmed that the daily money collection schedule may have made them an easy target for surveillance.

“Their daily routine of picking up money may have been closely watched,” Abellon said, adding that the suspects are likely part of an organized crime group from another region.

Police are currently pursuing the suspects and are asking for public assistance in locating them. The bank management has assured full cooperation with the investigation and pledged support to the family of the slain security guard.
