Top architecture graduate in Cebu school excels in prestigious UAE internship program

Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) continues to shine as a hub for producing globally competitive professionals, with the remarkable achievement of Dave Andrey B. Mosqueda, a top graduate of the BS Architecture program, exemplifying the institution’s commitment to excellence. Dave recently completed a prestigious international internship at XYZ Designers, an architectural consultancy firm in Dubai, UAE, known for its landmark projects like the Expo Dubai 2020 Syria Pavilion and the Formula 1 Jeddah Circuit.

Dave attributes his readiness for the fast-paced architectural world to his training at CIT University. “The university didn’t just teach me architectural theories, design principles, and technical skills—it also pushed me to be creative, critical, and timely,” he shared with The Global Filipino Magazine. These qualities proved invaluable during his time in Dubai, where he navigated the dynamic and challenging environment with confidence.

The internship opportunity, fully sponsored and merit-based, was introduced by Architect Angela Abelgas and Architect June Bayaton during the department’s general assembly in October 2023. It was offered to the top graduate of the BS Architecture program for the school year 2023-2024, recognizing academic excellence and dedication. Dave, with his outstanding academic record, emerged as the ideal candidate.

During his two-month internship, Dave worked on various interior design and technical drafting projects at XYZ Designers. “I handled tasks ranging from creating simple room and space layouts to detailing technical drawings for high-rise buildings,” he recounted. This hands-on experience allowed him to hone his skills in time management, organization, and technical design. A significant challenge came when he had to prepare graphical presentations for a client meeting within a single day. Reflecting on this experience, he said, “That tight deadline taught me the importance of timeliness, adaptability, and staying composed under pressure.”

His impressive performance earned him an offer to extend his internship for another two months, reflecting his exceptional work ethic, creativity, and technical acumen.

Beyond professional growth, Dave gained invaluable insights from working in a culturally diverse environment. “Collaborating with colleagues from around the world gave me new perspectives and taught me the value of learning from others,” he noted. This exposure deepened his appreciation for teamwork and highlighted the collaborative nature of architecture, which thrives on the sharing of ideas and cultural understanding.

The sponsorship for Dave’s internship included return flights, visa processing, hotel accommodations, communication allowances, and local tours in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Additionally, XYZ Designers provided a monthly stipend, ensuring that he could focus entirely on the experience. This level of support enabled him to fully immerse himself in professional practice, from concept and technical design to site project exposure.

Dave offered practical advice to future CIT University students aspiring for international opportunities. “Focus on improving both your technical skills and your personal principles,” he said. He emphasized the importance of adaptability—not only to work environments but also to new social and cultural settings. “Sometimes, navigating a new place or lifestyle can be just as challenging as the work itself,” he added.

CIT University’s international internship initiative aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By providing world-class learning opportunities, the university ensures its graduates are prepared for the global workforce, embodying discipline, professionalism, and excellence.
