P40-per-kilo rice now available in four new Metro Manila markets

Well-milled rice priced at ₱40 per kilo is now being sold at four additional markets in Metro Manila under the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Rice-for-All program. Launched in August, the initiative aims to provide cheaper rice options amid rising inflation.

The rice is available at Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) stalls located in Larangay Public Market and Phase 9 Bagong Silang Market in Caloocan, Cloverleaf Market in Quezon City, and New Marulas Public Market in Valenzuela. The kiosks operate daily from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m., except on December 24, 25, 30, 31, and January 1, 2025.

DA Assistant Secretary Genevieve Guevarra said the agency is collaborating with market leaders to expand the program across Luzon and eventually nationwide. Currently, there are around 450 KNP stores in the country.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. previously campaigned on a promise to lower rice prices to ₱20 per kilo. However, DA officials later acknowledged that this goal is unattainable.
