At just 12 years old, Axel Nocom has already made significant strides in the world of kart racing. Beginning his journey at age 7, Axel has collected numerous accolades, including being a five-time National Mini Karter of the Year in the Philippines. “Karting itself and the drivers I race against are what inspire me. We all challenge and push each other to become better,” Axel shared.
Axel’s recent achievements include competing in the Champions of the Future Academy Program, where he raced alongside children of former Formula 1 and Le Mans drivers. During Round 4 in Dubai, he qualified 13th and finished 12th. In Round 5 at Al Ain, he secured P2 in qualifying and finished 4th, while in Round 6 at Al Forsan, he again qualified P2 and finished 6th. Axel also competed in the FIA Motorsport Games in Valencia, Spain, representing the Philippines and finishing 11th out of 36 nations. “The FIA Motorsports Games was the most challenging because it featured the best drivers from each country. I even raced against relatives of pro drivers,” Axel said.
Despite his achievements, Axel remains focused on karting. “My real passion is karting in Europe and the Middle East. Like Senna said, karting is pure racing,” he explained. Axel is also inspired by the idea of developing talent in the Philippines. “I met people in Abu Dhabi during the F1 weekend who mentioned the F1 in Schools program. Hopefully, I’ll run my own team to develop Filipino drivers,” he added.
Balancing online schooling and racing, Axel attributes his success to his passion and the support of his entrepreneurial parents. “My advice to young racers is to enjoy karting because they love racing. Winning and Formula 1 are just bonuses,” he said, emphasizing his love for the sport above all else.
