Update: Helicopter crash off the UAE’s coast claims lives of both pilots

The second pilot involved in the tragic AeroGulf ‘Bell 212’ helicopter crash last Thursday has been confirmed dead, bringing the death toll of the accident to two, as announced by the company in a statement released on Sunday.

The helicopter, which was conducting routine training operations between Al Maktoum International Airport and an offshore rig, met with the fatal accident at 8:07 pm on September 7, 2023, crashing into the sea off the UAE’s coast. There were no passengers on board at the time of the accident, with only the two crew members present.

The UAE’s General Aviation Authority revealed that the pilots were of Egyptian and South African nationalities. The first pilot’s death was confirmed on Friday, while the search operation for the second pilot continued rigorously until Sunday.

AeroGulf expressed their deep condolences, stating, “Sadly, we can confirm that both crew members have perished.” The company assured that specially trained personnel have been mobilized to support the families and friends of the deceased during this sorrowful time, and appealed to the media to respect their privacy.
